The principal constituents of Guggulu are manusumbionic acid and manusumbinone which confer significant protection against the development of atherosclerosis, a disease affecting the arterial blood vessel.  They increase plasma fibrinolytic activity which aids in blood-clotting and prevents foreign bodies from entering the body.  Manusumbionic acid and manusumbinone also increase leucocytes in the blood and stimulate phagocytosis which removes foreign bodies to fight infections.  Guggulu is also a thyroid tonic that promotes the glands enzymatic activity and improves its ability to absorb iodine, the essential trace mineral for thyroid hormone production.  By helping to normalize hormonal levels and exhibiting anti-inflammatory properties, Guggulu rejuvenates the immune system and supports balanced cell production.  By reducing the levels of polyamines and prostaglandins that directly contribute to prostate problems and poor immune response, Guggulu promotes long-term prostate health.
